Los Angeles Music Week,  Incorporated  is a non-profit 501(c)3, community based outreach program, now in its Sixteenth year of service.  Each year during the first two weeks of December, Los Angeles Music Week honors the various contributions of local landmark artists of all genres and works exhaustively to provide equitable access to music education for at risk children and youth.  LAMW shares the history of music in Los Angeles with children and participants, noting the part this city plays in shaping music internationally. There are several year-round dynamic events, namely  Opening Ceremony, City Council Day, Children's Day, the Awards Luncheon and many relevant local events. L.A. Music Week is an instrument of unity, building bridges to the diverse citizenry while enhancing local tourism.  All contents are Los Angeles Music Week' exclusive intellectual property.  Permission must be obtained for use of these contents.

The Artistic Mission of Los Angeles Music Week

Fulfilling the motto, "An Instrument of Unity, " Los Angeles Music Week serves all the residents of the Greater Los Angeles area, including its surrounding basins.  The performances, projects and events impact people of diverse cultures, ages, ethnicities, religions and socioeconomic groups.  The scope of events offers Angelenos opportunities to hear musical genres that they have never experienced and invites them to explore venues in various parts of the city.   The educational activities of LAMW are enabled in elementary, middle  and high schools by donatng instruments, music instruction, mentoring, field trips and/or school supplies.   LAMW takes an active role in Los Angeles' cultural tourism industry by offering a wide variety of performances that showcase the city's musical heritage.

Due to the drastic cutbacks in music curricula in schools over the past decade, the majority of the city's children know little or nothing about the rich musical heritage of the city they live in and have no scope of the musical genres available to them, from classical to jazz to ethnic musics.  Many children have very few musical skills or lack the resources for acquiring them.  LAMW's program elements, such as field trips, in-school presentations and opportunities to interface with living musical legends, broaden musical understanding and have created musical bridges between the communities over the  past twelve years.  The  sponsors and partnerships listed on this page dutifully enable LAMW  to accomplish the educational goals and facilitate field trips for the school children in order to link music with other aspects of culture and learning.  The children derive so much pride and motivation from learning how many famous musicians from all aspects of the music business grew up in their own communities.    Face-to-face dialogue with successful living legends gives them the impetus to explore their own God-given talents and capabilities, inspiring them to learn.   The Children's Day field trips open up a world of amazing wonder and possibility.

Will you place an Ad in our Souvenir Journal?
Dare to make a positive impact in children's lives.

the following free summer series in Los Angeles ought to keep you tapping
your feet. So get out there, enjoy the weather and tune into the music.

Farm Fresh Summer Music at Farmers Market
When: Thursdays and Fridays through September
Where: Farmers Market, West Patio

summer music series. Combine great food from LA's original farmers market with
groups hailing from traditions such as Latin jazz, country swing, funk jazz and more.

2009 Summer Concert Series
When: Sundays at 7:30p.m.
Where: University Christian Church
The Groove: Beginning June 7th, experience an unique eight week musical potpourri
in the Music and Arts Venue known as the UCC After Hours Café. This is an inspiring,
relaxing, family friendly time, with excellent local talents and a variety of musical genres.

Grand Performances Summer Festival
When: Mid-June through mid-October
Where: California Plaza
The Groove: At lunchtime, hundreds of Angelenos put down their work and take a
cultural break with a bit of fresh air. Grand Performances presents 40-plus free performing
arts events — music, dance and theater — as multicultural as their audience, giving local talent
a chance to shine and bringing global stars to this center of government, business and culture.

Ford Amphitheatre Summer Season
When: June to mid-October.
Where: The Ford Amphitheatre
The Groove: Imagine watching dance, comedy, film and music performances in the midst
of California weather, cypresses and chaparral, courtesy of The Los Angeles County Arts
Commission. The best part: this 1,241-seat outdoor amphitheater guarantees that no
person is more than 96 feet away from the stage.

Pershing Square Summer Concert Series
When: June through late September on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Where: Pershing Square, Downtown LA
The Groove: In the high-rise heart of Downtown is a palm tree oasis known as Pershing Square
where the summertime brings neighbors, tourists and professionals together for lunchtime concerts,
films on Fridays, kids events and sizzling Salsa Sundays. On Wednesday nights,
the stage will host a variety of bands.

Live Music at Hollywood & Highland
When: June through late August on Tuesdays
Where: Babylon Courtyard at Hollywood & Highland Center
The Groove: Wine, jazz and moonlight…what more could you ask for? This summer
series gives you a chance to hobnob with the coolest cats of jazz while sampling the gifts
of Bacchus and helping to end world hunger, all at the same time. Although it is a free event,
wine tasting donations benefit Project Angel Food.

Twilight Dance and Music at the Santa Monica Pier
When: Late June through late August
Where: Santa Monica Pier
The Groove: Hawaii, Jamaica, Britain, Argentina, Africa…these are just a handful of the
exotic locations represented by the Twilight Dance and Music concert series this summer.
So when you are finished taking in the city lights on the Pier’s famous Ferris wheel,
check out the rock, pop, jazz, blues and plenty of dance music rocking the boardwalk.
Due to limited parking, the Santa Monica Pier is offering a bike
valet starting at 6:30 p.m. on concert nights.

Summer Sunset Music Festival in Culver City
When: Mid July through early September
Where: City Hall Courtyard, Culver City
The Groove: The sun’s not the only thing that’s going down in Culver City during the
summer. When the day ends, the music begins, bringing you an eclectic array of musical
offerings including classic rock, bluegrass and even zydeco. Steps away from convenient
parking and plenty of restaurants, this series gives you no excuse to miss out on the music.

Also I Like to Rock at the Hammer Museum
When: TBD
Where: Hammer Museum

The Groove:
Indie 103.1 hand-picks local upcoming bands
to perform at the Hammer’s outdoor courtyard. In the past,
bands such as Sea Wolf and Tokyo Police Club have played
to a packed crowd. 2009 dates haven’t been posted yet,
but check their site for updates.

Saturdays Off the 405 at the Getty Center
When: May to September
Where: Getty Center
The Groove: “Saturdays Off the 405” (formerly “Fridays Off the 405”)
takes over the museum’s courtyard, which boasts incredible nighttime
views of the city. Grab a drink at the cash bar and then check out
the musical guests, curated by Flavorpill magazine. Past shows
have included Monsters are Waiting and DJ Adam 12.

as he interactively wove his way to the stage to join the orchestra in a lively
initial & encore performance of "Kaleidoscope Shuffle," conducted by composer
Mitch Glickman.  Various other selections were clapped to, snapped to or sung

joyfully by the students, including Eddie Sauter's two part "Focus,"  Edward
Elgar's "Enigma Variations" and Tom Scott's "Bossa, Ballad &
Kinda Blues" which was commissioned by the Symphonic Jazz Orchestra.

Tom Scott also played tenor saxophone on the last two numbers at the
scenic, historic location, which is near the San Gabriel Mission. The lyrical
symphonic jazz compositions intertwine jazz with European orchestral artistry.

Great News from Fifty Second Street School!
Fifty Second Street School's Instrumental Chorus:  Wind and Brass Section

Flautist, Ixchel Quiroz, 3rd from right, has recently been accepted into the LAUSD
Honors Elementary Orchestra for the LA Unified School District.  She is the only student selected,
through
a rigorous audition process,  from LAUSD's Local District 7,  out of 275 students,
and she performed a variety of difficult classical pieces with expert professionalism.

Ixchel is one of Ms. Evans' former students, who has been under the expert tutelage of Mr.
Eric Erichavelli,
a stellar instrumental music educator at 52nd. Street School.  Ixchel's recent
performance at the California State University's Luckman Theatre illustrates the effectiveness
of the academic rigor and standards based arts instruction at Fifty Second Street School.

We have now been introduced to the Sam Danon Family of Northridge,  the owners of the Falafel Palace at 9255 Reseda Blvd.  They have found this a worthy program to support.

I, Margie Evans, thank all of you from the bottom of my heart; you gave me a chance to continue this vision through many hardships.  I sit here today in this tough economic time, with the faith of Job of the Holy Bible. May God continue to bless and keep you!  Our Journal has gone globally and your Firm will be addressed as the sponsors to this great Organization!

The Fifty Second Street Instrumental Chorus
Conducted and instructed by Mr. Erichavelli
Local District 7
816 West 51st. Street
Los Angeles, CA 90037

The Fifty Second Street School Music Department

Fifty Second Street Elementary School, located in Local District 7, is a reservoir of musical opportunities, ripened by rigorous instruction, interactive assemblies and varied experiences that expose students to a diversity of standards-based knowledge.  A large percentage of the student body is now taking instrumental music instruction either privately, or through the school’s music department. This has made a tremendous difference in developing metacognition as well as a higher level of critical thinking across the curriculum.  52nd. is graced by two highly talented music educators, Mr. Erichavelli, who teaches all instrumental music classes, and Mr. William Marshall, a 2006 Music Week honoree.  Both gentlemen enable and enlighten students regarding music theory, music history as well as music appreciation.  There are also periodic music assemblies which enrich student achievement through classical music, chamber music, cultural multi-genre music, musical quartets, as well as exposure to theatre arts and visual arts workshops, either on site or through  participation in local venues.  Therefore, Fifty Second Street Elementary School is growing a community of interactive, enthusiastic learners who are reaching their academic goals through the sponsorship of Los Angeles Music Week.  Now, more students have equitable access to instrumental music instruction, as well as music classes and choral instruction.
