Los Angeles Music Week,  Incorporated  is a non-profit 501(c)3, community-based outreach program, now in its fifteenth year of service.  Each year during the first two weeks of December, Los Angeles Music Week honors the various contributions of local landmark artists of all genres and works exhaustively to provide equitable access to music education for at risk children and youth.  LAMW shares the history of music in Los Angeles with children and participants, noting the part this city plays in shaping music internationally. L.A. Music Week is an instrument of unity, building bridges to the diverse citizenry while enhancing local tourism.  All contents are Los Angeles Music Week' exclusive intellectual property.  Permission must be obtained for use of these contents.

The Artistic Mission of Los Angeles Music Week

Fulfilling the motto, "An Instrument of Unity, " Los Angeles Music Week serves all the residents of the Greater Los Angeles area, including its surrounding basins.  The performances, projects and events impact people of diverse cultures, ages, ethnicities, religions and socioeconomic groups.  The scope of events offers Angelenos opportunities to hear musical genres that they have never experienced and invites them to explore venues in various parts of the city.   The educational activities of LAMW are enabled in elementary, middle  and high schools by donatng instruments, music instruction, mentoring, field trips and/or school supplies.   LAMW takes an active role in Los Angeles' cultural tourism industry by offering a wide variety of performances that showcase the city's musical heritage.

Due to the drastic cutbacks in music curricula in schools over the past decade, the majority of the city's children know little or nothing about the rich musical heritage of the city they live in and have no scope of the musical genres available to them, from classical to jazz to ethnic musics.  Many children have very few musical skills or lack the resources for acquiring them.  LAMW's program elements, such as field trips, in-school presentations and opportunities to interface with living musical legends, broaden musical understanding and have created musical bridges between the communities over the  past twelve years.  The  sponsors and partnerships listed on this page dutifully enable LAMW  to accomplish the educational goals and facilitate field trips for the school children in order to link music with other aspects of culture and learning.  The children derive so much pride and motivation from learning how many famous musicians from all aspects of the music business grew up in their own communities.    Face-to-face dialogue with successful living legends gives them the impetus to explore their own God-given talents and capabilities, inspiring them to learn.   The Children's Day field trips open up a world of amazing wonder and possibility.

Eugene Golden (left photo) is the Los Angeles Music Guild's   Executive and Artistic Director.  He brings musicians
to 52nd. Street School.  The talented  St. Petersburg String Quartet is from Georgia, which is in the Soviet Union.
The Music Guild has a chamber music series for children. Its mission is to present chamber music in an intimate
setting to the children at an early age before they have been taught by their elders or their peers that they will
not like it. The objective of the children’s concerts is not only to introduce great chamber music to them, but to
inspire them to want to study and perform music. The Music Guild selects schools that have music departments
with the ability to teach all students who want to study.  Many
52nd. Street School students now study various
stringed, wind and percussion instruments with Mr. Erichavelli's on site instruction, as others aspire to join them.

               Children's Day 2007
An interactive, lively string quartet concert, taught by Mr. Eugene Golden, the Music Guild's Executive/Artistic Director, preceded the donation of various instruments, designer book bags from the Supreme Master International TV.com and a box of 20 brand new recorders with instruction book from Los Angeles Music Week, hosted by 52nd Street School Principal Beverly Crosby, with assistance from teacher and LAMW President, Vicki Evans. On Thursday, 12/13/07, 2nd. grade teacher Dave Knudsen agreed with Ms. Crosby and Ms. Evans that he will teach his class how to play the recorder. That  same day, Ofelia Cardenas won the pink Hello Kitty TV for perfect attendance and high math scores. On Friday, 12/14, Ms. Evans donated  a red drum set to the following high scoring reading and math test 3rd grade students: Damaris Avila received the largest drum, the midsize drum went to Jaqueline Torres, and the tiny drum was earned by Horacio Leon for correctly answering the most multiplication facts.  Finally, a large children's trampoline was won by Isai Martinez Mendoza for two units in all areas of consecutively high scores in all areas on the Open Court Reading Exams.   The following photos show Ms. Evans' students at Inner City Arts learning the drums, vibraphone and xylophone, also known as the marimba in Latin countries.
